Nitrile gloves are a great industrial alternative to latex gloves. They are available in similar thicknesses to latex gloves, and are of a comparable price as well. Like latex gloves, they offer wonderful durability and flexibility, and are available in bulk.
The differences in latex and nitrile gloves are very important, however. Nitrile contains no latex proteins, which are the leading cause of type I dangerous hypersensitivity allergic reactions. They also contain similar resistance properties as latex gloves, with the added ability to resist many chemicals and solvents.
For applications that involve some dangerous aromatic or aliphatic hydrocarbons, nitrile gloves can last up to 8 times as long as natural rubber gloves, and quite a bit longer than gloves made of neoprene or PVC as well. For other applications, especially those involving very dangerous chemicals such as aldehydes or ketones, even nitrile gloves may not be strong enough.
The Availability of Nitrile Gloves
Most safety equipment suppliers stock a variety of nitrile gloves. Online vendors usually stock a wide range of nitrile gloves for many applications, and also may offer quantity discounts for industrial uses. A selection of gloves may also be available at hardware stores, some drug stores, and local specialty stores.
